Rawang, 5 Aug: Perodua saw its first Friday prayer at its newly completed Masjid at its headquarters here today after 2 years of construction with a total congregation capacity of 3,000 worshipers.
The Masjid is part of Perodua’s Corporate Responsibility initiative for its staff and the community in which its headquarters is located.
“We hope this Perodua Masjid would be able to become the centre of all the community’s needs,” Perodua President & CEO, Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said.
“In addition, this house of worship would also benefit Peroduans as it allows them the convenience and safety, especially when performing their Friday prayer obligations,” Aminar said.
The masjid has a land area of 3.74 acres and a built-up area of 0.92 acre, costing approximately RM9.8 million to build and equipped. Aside from the prayer area, the Masjid grounds also offer other amenities such as food stalls and space to hold community functions (weddings, funerals, etc…).
The Masjid itself has been donated to the community via the Islamic practice of “Waqaf”. Waqaf is defined as endowment; where a person donates his belongings or property for perpetual use by all (in line with Syariah guidelines) in the name of Allah.
“We are working towards building a caring society and we believe that having the Masjid is at the heart of it,” Aminar said.
In line with state law, the Masjid was handed over to the Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (Selangor Department of Islamic Affairs), which in turn entrusted the administration of the Masjid to a sponsor committee led by En Noor Hashiman Sulaiman, who is also the chairman for the Badan Agama Islam Perodua.
In attendance at the handover ceremony are the Istana of Selangor representative, YDH Dato’ Haji Aman Shah Mohd Sahar, Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Hulu Selangor, YBhg Dato’ Hj Haris Kasim, Director of JAIS, Abu Bakar Yang, CEO of Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor and Dr Zahari Husin, Managing Director of Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd.
